Tonight, while making dinner, we heard from AK: "Cashew, I can't see you. Where are you?"

In recent days, she has discovered that her nose has holes, not only for blowing out, but also for finger insertion. Tonight she decided to try a small piece of cashew. (This has been broken into thirds and smaller, so the piece was very, very small) Fortunately, we got her to blow it out and were spared an ER visit.

Yikes. No more cashews...

The First Blame

Scene: Daddy, Mommy, and Grandma sitting around the dinner table; AK leaning over the bouncy seat patting EH's hair

Daddy: Did you poop?
AK: No, it was Evan.

Hilarious. The first of many to come, I'm sure!

Heart of Gold

Our pediatrician is fabulous. She researches when she doesn't know an answer and is very prompt about calling back or scheduling appointments. These are just some examples....Consequently, with EH she is "crossing all Ts and dotting all Is" health-wise and sending us to a few specialists.

The first of these referrals was today to the pediatric cardiologist. (Different from in utero) EH has a heart of gold...no murmurs, no difficulties, no NOTHING! Pronounced 100%!

On a sad note, please keep a college friend of mine in your prayers. She and her husband were expecting triplets for a due date in May (or an earlier delivery date of March-April), but they were born too early this past Sunday night and all went to be angels in heaven. As a new mother once again, I cannot begin to imagine the pain and agony; sadness and disappointment they must be experiencing right now. I weep with her.

2-week checkup Jan 13

Baby EH gained 1/2 pound since his last check-up. He was 7 pounds, 7 ounces! We are now doing "on demand" feeding which is a lot easier (?) than the 3-hour scheduled ones. Sometimes he goes 4 or 4.5 hours (even at night!) which is great.

Last night was his first fussy night, but that ended at 1am. He must be going through a growth spurt--he was soooooooo hungry! I think he came close to 4-5 ounces in a feeding that started at 10:45pm!

AK is still doing great. "Plays" with him, dotes on him, tells him he's stinky, etc. Very cute.

Nearly two weeks old

I never posted any of AK's birth story, but I will make small mention of the great feat it was bringing EH into the world. Like any ordinary Wednesday morning (except that AK was NOT in school), I was puttering around...minding my own business...waiting for the nurse to call me with a January induction date. At 4am, I had felt a strange pain that didn't seem to subside, but I attributed it to something else. At 9:30am, there was a cramp so strong it had me on the floor. My neighbor (with the 5 children) suggested I take a shower. Good idea or else it would have been a while. ha ha. At 11am, I began timing what were the contractions (I finally came out of denial). After the second one, they were all 3-6 minutes apart! I'll skip the next few details...by 2pm we were at the doctor's office where I was at 6cm. (NOTE: After the birth, my doc told me I had been at 7cm--she hadn't wanted to scare me!) 2 hours later (blood draws, IV fluids, and a dropped needle by the CNA), I FINALLY had my epidural. People, I was at 8cm!!

Well, I guess it was nice to experience a "natural labor" after having a "jump-started one" with AK, but please note, my plan was to have that epi at 5cm. The other nice thing was I got to keep my gum AND have ice chips throughout. I joke with J that he can no longer make fun of me....I may be emotionally soft at times, but I am woman and I am tough! :) If anything, it was a self-confidence-inducing day. :)

Well, enough of that. Here are the results:
