First Steps

The people from the walking program came today to evaluate. What a fascinating experience. The PT noticed right away that she has a slight pronation in both feet, meaning the inside of her foot (something about the tendon) touches the ground more than it should. Nothing to worry about, but it could be why our girl took her sweet time. Should correct itself in time. Who would have known! Also, they suggested if in 4-6 weeks she was still "balancing with her hands" and walking "legs apart" that a sturdier shoe would help.

They also noticed she may be slightly tongue-tied, though I can check for real tonight at tooth-brushing time! She pushes her tongue out a little, keeps her mouth open, has a dimple on her tongue (from the pacifier!), and doesn't stick her tongue out! Amazing, all that they could see in just a small observation window. To correct this, we are to wean from the pacifier (duh), introduce straws, and blow bubbles. She also has lower muscle tone in her cute rosy cheeks, which could go all the way back to the days of BFing....She wasn't ever strong enough to suck....I think the lactation person said that at the first class. So interesting.

Overall, it seemed she was "fine" and they were (at least) impressed with her vocabulary and object identification. I'll get the full report in a few days.
