2009 has started out with a bang. Well, more of a "better show up or else we'll shackle you." Yep. AK's mama got a jury duty summons.
We happen to live in a state that does not allow exemptions. Apparently, too many people have taken advantage of such. Yep, if you live in State X and you are a stay-at-home mother and have a child under the age of 12, you are exempt. If you live in State Q and you are a stay-at-home mother and have a child under the age of 6, you are exempt. But nope, not ours, so now we have to figure something out for our, what will be then, 14-week-old angel.
Needless to say, I am not at all thrilled. It had been our hope to be the sole caretakers of AK until at least 6 months old, since we have no family near us. I wonder what people do in this situation (and why could I not have gotten this notice in the first 17 years of being in the BMV database)?!
Something to think about....if you're employed full-time, your employer must allow you to fulfill your civic duty. I guess it's another example of how some people consider "being a mom" not a "real" job.
YEAH RIGHT.
